Australia has been a forerunner in introducing legislation which legitimises the industry as an acceptable commercial activity; a job like any other. In an attempt to minimise harm the unintended consequence has been a massive increase in demand for sexual services and a failure to eliminate violence, abuse and trafficking of women into sexual servitude. The Australian Government should consider funding appropriate exit programs for the large number of people who want to leave the Australian prostitution industry but are incapable of doing so because of lack of support.
