Euthanasia NO - Dr David Van Gend. In 1995 the Northern Territory parliament passed a voluntary euthanasia law. However, the Federal Parliament, in a conscience, overturned this law in 1997. A similar situation occurred in the UK – where euthanasia was rejected in 1994 and again only 12 years later in 2006. Australia will be discussing euthanasia again, only 11 years after its previous defeat. Have any of the arguments changed? Euthanasia is an oppression of the vulnerable, and a profound corruption of the doctor-patient relationship, that we must not allow. We can only redouble our efforts to care, without killing. |
